Social Media Marketing Strategies Which Can Kill Your Brand
As a marketing professional, I have dedicated countless hours to perfecting social media strategies, from defined, well-branded social media blurbs to cross-platform posting, I’ve developed key strategies in all areas social, so let me start off by saying that the power of Social Media for any business is incomparable in its ability to reach and close leads.
Feeling lost with social media ?
That being said, the number of ill-formed social media campaigns used by businesses today is astounding. Now it would be short sighted to state that any form of social media marketing is futile, especially as the number of “worldwide social media users is projected to grow from 2.1 billion (2015) to 2.5 billion by 2018.” (1)
But one thing is becoming ever so apparent, many business owners – not for lack of trying – are unsure about which content to post and at what frequency. And because of this, fall into the habit of posting repetitive, non-engaging content.
Posting on your respective social platforms can easily become a tiresome obligation; you know it’s necessary, you don’t quite know what you should be posting, you simply know you should be. In fact, “46% of business owners say they’re not sure whether any social channels have generated revenue for their businesses,” that is an eye-watering amount of uncertainty.
So when you forget to post for a week, which can quickly become two weeks, all too often business owners will feel like they’re falling behind or even worse, often fall into the trap of hiring so called ‘social media marketing professionals,’ to alleviate the stress.
This form of Social Media is NOT helping you, your business or your following on social media.
Although, on the surface such a cheap, quick social media marketing agency may appear to help you, many of the approaches will merely post generic industry content, with no intelligent social media marketing strategy or campaign in place. This means engagement of posts will be low and followers less likely to buy.
Social Media Marketing Strategy
With Budgets devoted to social media marketing expected to increase from about 10% on average today to nearly 25% within the next five years, it’s imperative that we get this right.
The first and most important thing is that, as a business owner – you understand who is following you, why they are following you, and most important of all, what they like to see.
Know where your target audience spends their time – The “most important” social networks to teens and young adults (aged 12-24) are now Instagram (32%), Twitter (24%), Facebook (14%), Snapchat (13%) and Tumblr (4%).
Define your social media marketing strategy – There must be a reason why you are on a social platform, and a specific defined endpoint. Are you aiming to raise the awareness of your brand? Do you want to convert followers into engaged leads? By understanding the endpoint or aim of your platform, you can develop a strategy to achieve something actionable.
Content Ratio – Figure out how many times you should post your own blogs Vs. how many times you should post other people’s blogs.
Analysis – Be vigilant and be aware of the impact of your posts, this is the best way to understand your value for money. If you have a sophisticated website reporting tool which allows you to monitor the source of your web traffic, use it to see how many people have clicked to a page on your website from a social post.
One thing to always be wary of when speaking to social media marketers is a menu type pricing with little or no strategy. You’ve probably seen the likes of “30 posts a month for £100” being advertised, be cautious of this form of social content as social media marketing agencies which service like this almost always prioritise quantity over quality. –
